Abstrak

Prevention of pregnancy complications is one of the main focuses in midwifery care, especially in rural areas such as Suka Mulya, Cianjur, where strong cultural values and local wisdom are still preserved. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of integrating local wisdom into midwifery education to improve the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of pregnant women in preventing pregnancy complications.

The research employed a approach with a sequential explanatory design, involving 25 pregnant women as respondents and 5 key informants consisting of midwives, community leaders, and health cadres. The research instruments included a structured questionnaire, in-depth interview guides, and observation sheets.

The results showed that midwifery education based on local wisdom—covering cultural practices that support maternal health, the use of the local language, and the involvement of traditional leaders—significantly improved mothers’ understanding of danger signs in pregnancy, ANC practices, and preparedness for childbirth. The integration of cultural elements was proven to enhance the acceptance of health messages, strengthen emotional engagement, and reduce resistance to medical information.

This study contributes a new model of culturally-based midwifery education that can be used as a reproductive health promotion strategy in rural communities.
